HOW TO REGISTER A NEW COMPANY TO NHIF IN KENYA

How to Register a New Company and its Directors For The National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF)

The Fund's core mandate is to provide medical insurance cover to all its members and their declared dependents (spouse and children). The NHIF membership is open to all Kenyans who have attained the age of 18 years and years and have a monthly income of more than KES 1000.  NHIF registers all eligible members from both the formal and informal sector. For those in the formal sector, it is to be a member. For those in the informal sector and retirees, membership is open and voluntary. Here are the steps to register a new company and its directors for NHIF.

STEPS

I.    FILLING OUT OF EMPLOYEES/ NHIF FORM 33.

Download/ collect employee/ NHIF form 33 from their offices/ website.


II.    Fill in the details as required in the form.
a)    Details of employer; directors / shareholders
b)    Registered address of company
c)    Certificate/ registration number of company
d)    Company pin number


III.     SUBMITTING OF DOCUMENTS

a)    Submit the NHIF form 3 at the NHIF offices, together with:
b)    Company's pin certificate
c)    Certificate of registration


IV.    COMPLIANCE CHECK
a)    A compliance check will then be carried out by NHIF and the report filled in the form submitted.
b)    Inspection time is not accurately set but it is usually done within 1- 2 days of submitting.


V.     RECEIVING NHIF CODE
a)    On approval, the director is issued with a code for the company (account number) and can now remit deductions.
 Processing of NHIF cards for director and employees take 7- 14 days, or more.
